Roni Mansur, VP of Product Development, joins Bright Spots in Healthcare podcast for an in-depth discussion

Mass General Brigham Health Plan's VP of Product Development Roni Mansur joined industry leaders on Bright Spots in Healthcare to discuss the ways we provide innovative and comprehensive products and services for our members.

On the podcast, Roni shared our approach to developing member-focused coverage, such as the Complete Access EPO. A high-value product that offers flexible care options to support an increasingly remote workforce, the EPO is one example of how Mass General Brigham Health Plan listens and responds to feedback from members and the business community. Members value this approach, as demonstrated by our No. 1 ranking in member satisfaction among commercial health plans in Massachusetts by J.D. Power for the second year in a row.

Trending insights: Weight-loss drugs

In recent years, the demand for weight-loss drugs has skyrocketed within the United States. Since it was first approved as a diabetes drug in 2017, GLP-1 semaglutide (the generic name for Ozempic and the related drugs Rybelsus and Wegovy) has quickly become one of the most popular prescriptions in the country. In 2021, an estimated 8.2 million semaglutide prescriptions were written in the U.S., more than quadrupling the number from just two years prior.

While a recent review of GLP-1 medication studies published between 2020 and 2024 found that bariatric surgery provides the most significant and sustained weight loss, weight-loss drugs have also been proven to be effective. Taking weight-loss drugs for a year can lead to a 3% to 12% loss of total body weight, which is more than what’s typically lost through lifestyle changes alone. While that may not seem like a lot, losing 5% to 10% of your body weight can lead to lower blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and triglycerides.
