October 17, 2023 (SOMERVILLE, MA) – Mass General Brigham Health Plan announced the appointment of four new members to the Board of Directors who will bring additional leadership, experience and expertise from across disciplines to the integrated healthcare model being advanced with one of the world’s leading healthcare systems.

“Today’s evolving healthcare marketplace has reinforced the need for new, innovative solutions that improve health outcomes, reduce costs, and enhance the customer experience. We are excited to be joined by our new directors, who are both eminent in their fields and experienced with organizational change, and grateful to our existing directors for their wisdom and hard work in advancing our integrated model of care this far,” said Richard Holbrook, Chairman, Mass General Brigham Health Plan.

As part of a unified healthcare system built on a legacy of two of the world’s leading academic medical centers, Mass General Brigham Health Plan is advancing innovative solutions through value-based care models centered on the health needs of our members -- with a keen focus on underserved communities.

Reflecting the health plan’s focus on the member experience, Mass General Brigham Health Plan was ranked No. 1 by J.D. Power this year in member satisfaction among commercial health plans in Massachusetts. The plan also received a 4.5 out of 5 rating for 2023 commercial and Medicaid Health Plan Ratings from the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA).

“I’m grateful to our Board—both current and new members—for their guidance and collaboration as we work to execute on our transformation as part of an integrated healthcare system, enabling seamless and affordable care,” said Steven Tringale, President, Mass General Brigham Health Plan. “We look forward to working with our new board members, who like our current directors offer proven leadership in disciplines central to our transformation, from community health to information technology infrastructure, to branding and marketing.”

The new members of the board are:

Michael Curry, President and CEO, Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, which represents 52 health centers and serves over one million patients at over 300 practice sites. He brings over 30 years of experience in civil rights advocacy, health reform, and health equity. Prior to his current role, he was the Senior VP and General Counsel of Government Affairs & Public Policy at the League. An Adjunct Professor at both the New England School of Law and Suffolk University, Curry serves on the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Board of Directors.

“The Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers and Mass General Brigham Health Plan have long shared a mission to promote population health equity through leadership supporting accessible, quality, comprehensive, and community-responsive care,” he said. “I am honored to continue the legacy of our partnership with Mass General Brigham Health Plan and look forward to contributing to the health plan’s focus on increasing access to high-quality, equitable care in our communities.”

Prior to her current role, Abreu held positions at State Street Corporation, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services, and the City of Boston. A faculty member at Boston University and Cambridge College, she currently serves as a Board Member on the MGH Department of Neurology Diversity and Inclusion Council, and previously served as the Chair of the Board of the Institute of Community Health.

“I’m passionate about digital transformation, organizational change and turning business challenges into valuable opportunities through the world of technology, and I’m excited by the opportunity to leverage technology to improve our members’ experience,” she said.

Leslee Kiley, Brand and Marketing Consultant, who brings experience building strong, purpose-led brand platforms and marketing programs that drive measurable results as the former COO of Hill Holiday. In this role, she focused on positioning the agency for the future by launching new agency capabilities, as well as advising clients across a range of categories about building a strategic foundation for purpose-led brand management. Kiley is the immediate past Chair for the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Regional Advisory Board for Bottom Line and formerly served on the Executive Council of the Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

“With a new brand that reflects Mass General Brigham Health Plan’s part in a unified system with one of the leading brands in healthcare today, this is an exciting time to be telling the health plan’s unique story,” she said.

Prior to his current role, Medina held positions at Univision Boston, El Planeta Media, Phoenix Media Communications Group, Clipper Properties, Softtek Integration Systems, and Anixter. He has served on the Board of Directors for Fenway Community Health and the AIDS Action Committee, and he is currently a Corporator with Eastern Bank.

“I have deep expertise in providing voice, data and other related solutions and services to multi-location businesses throughout North America,” he said. “I believe that technology is also valuable to help in providing services to those in underserved populations.
